30 YR SSW WATER CONCESSION
PPP Project
Location: South Africa, KZN, Ilembe District (Ballito)
This project entails the monitoring and project management of a 30year Water and Sanitation Concession in Ilembe District Municipality as part of a Public Private Partnership (‘PPP’), the concession contract ends in 2029. The concession area covers 12,5km2 and services just over 62, 000 users, who vary from rural to urban, including light industrial and retail. The assets being managed and monitored are the, include; 15 storage facilities, 7,1km bulk main system of 450mm diameter, 3 wastewater treatments works processing 19,2 Ml/day, 27 pumpstations sewer pumpstations, 10 water pumpstations, 270km of water networks infrastructure and 196km of sewer pipeline infrastructure. MCPM as a ‘specialist PPP/Concession Consultant’ was responsible for ensuring technical compliance and financial performance of SSW and legal, contractual aspects insofar as the national legislative mandate, industry standards and norms, guidelines, as well as ensuring the regional and provincial frameworks are fulfilled.
LUGANDA BULK SEWER LINE
EPCM - Water Project

This project entails the construction of 900mm concrcete diameter pipeline with eight bridge crossings, spanning over 5.0 km. The reticulated sewage system to service the Luganda/Intake, Katshi, Demat and Progress Place communities located in the Outer West area of the Ethekwini Municipality. These areas are currently not serviced by water borne sewage. The informal pit latrines and septic tank systems are currently inadequate to cater for these areas sanitation needs.
These townships are developing rapidly in to dense residential communities (both formal and informal) and this bulk pipeline will provide much needed relief and bring diginity to the communities in the outer west region of eThekwini.

MALUKAZI PUMP STATION
EPCM - Water Project

The scope of the work entails the supply of all labour, plant, materials and equipment for the construction / installation of; • Construction of gravity bulk sewer • Construction of sewage pump stations including provision of electrical power. • Construction of pumping sewer mains • Access road construction / upgrade where necessary to allow for the construction • Compliance and monitoring in accordance to the Environmental Management Programme. • Associated ancillary works.
The Sewer system has been design to cater for the current and ongoing containerized sanitation programme and the future needs of the community of Malukazi, located on the outskirts of eThekwini, on as and when the area is brought on to waterborne sewage.
MANDENI SANITATION
Location: South Africa, KZN, Ilembe District (Mandeni)
The works included Project Management and Construction of an estimated 3000 VIP toilets (Eaziflush) single pit toilets in the Mandeni Local Municipality over a period of three years.
The project created over 300 employment opportunities for the members of the local community during construction. The execution incorporated the use of Labour Intensive Construction methods in line with government EPWP policy to enhance skills development, training and employment creation opportunities on its projects.
